How the countdown counts
Calendar days remaining is the number of days from today to your final working day. Working days remaining counts Monday to Friday from today up to and including the final day. It does not take bank holidays off, so if one falls in the window you will have one fewer day at work than shown; the working days in notice calculator removes them. Weeks remaining is the calendar days divided by seven.
Progress through notice needs the date your notice started. Leave it blank and the countdown treats today as the start, so progress shows 0%. The page updates every minute while it is open, and the copy button gives you a short text summary to paste into a message or a note.
If you do not know your final working day yet, work it out first with the notice period calculator: it counts from the day you hand in notice, adds weeks or calendar months, and moves a weekend end date back to the Friday.
Worked example
Your notice started on Monday 2 November 2026 and your final working day is Wednesday 2 December 2026, a 30-day notice period. Checking on Monday 16 November 2026, the countdown shows 16 calendar days remaining, 13 working days (Monday 16 November to Wednesday 2 December, both included), 2.3 weeks, and 47% of the notice elapsed (14 of 30 days).
Using the time that is left
- Holiday. Holiday you have built up but not taken is either taken during your notice, if your employer agrees or asks you to, or paid in your final pay. The holiday entitlement calculator works out how much you have accrued.
- Handover. With the working days known, spread the handover across them rather than leaving it to the last week. The handover plan generator paces it for you.
- Final pay. Ask payroll which payday your final pay falls on and check it covers your last days, any holiday owed and any expenses. Keep your final payslip and your P45.
- Pension and benefits. Workplace pension contributions and benefits such as private medical cover usually stop when employment ends, so check the dates if you are moving straight to a new job.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I count down to my final working day?
- Enter your final working day on this page. The countdown updates each minute while open and shows calendar days, working days (Mon-Fri), weeks and the percentage of your notice already elapsed. If you add a notice start date the progress bar fills in from there; otherwise it treats today as the start.
- Does the countdown subtract bank holidays?
- Not on this page — it uses the simple Mon-Fri working-day definition. For a count that drops UK bank holidays from your working days, use the dedicated working-days-in-notice calculator linked above.
- Can I share my countdown?
- Use the Copy summary button to drop the key numbers into a Slack, WhatsApp or email. The URL does not currently encode your dates — the countdown is a planning tool for you, not a public page about your exit.
